Ho Chi Crispy

May I introduce to you Cơm gà xối mỡ or, in English; Chicken Rice Pour the Grease. Yea, this is fried chicken and yes I'm still in Việt Nam. They actually do a fabulous fried bird out here.

Keepin' it basic 'n greasy, it's seasoned with a touch of Chinese 5 spice powder, salt or MSG (used avidly in street grub) and then off to the veggie oil jacuzzi for a 10 minute bubble bath. No panko crust, no beer batter- just 2x2 cage-raised chicken legs.

Served simply with fried rice, a spicy hoisin-like dipping sauce and even a few cucumber slices to lighten things up and reduce your post-meal guilt.

You definitely have to get yourself out to the Chợ Lớn district of Hồ Chí Minh to get the tastiest and most authentic versions of Cơm gà xối mỡ. These Chinatown sidewalks give Kentucky a run for it's money. There's a new Colonel in town.

12.000 - 15.000 VND a plate.
